Allowing more people to enjoy classical music is the ‘raison d’être’ of the Royal Flemish Philharmonic orchestra. One of their main means to promote the accessibility of their listening experiences is their website at To further enhance that means of promotion, the orchestra asked us to design an intuitive way to find concerts and events on their site so that more people would find their way to them, including those people with less experience in classical music. Another part of our assignment was to help the orchestra use their site to reach out to new audiences via school programs and other outreach efforts.

To ensure the new features on would reach all intended ears, we first did a content audit, a user needs assessment and we worked on a messaging strategy that focused on integrating education into the user experience. We then elaborated a brand strategy to make the youth and diversity programs easier to find. Finally Wunderkraut, our technical partner and Drupal expert, integrated all new features into the philharmonic’s responsive, mobile first design. During that integration, we made sure that the improved site is still built in such a way that the web team of the Royal Flemish Philharmonic can easily manage and maintain all content themselves.

A faster website only bears fruit. Like we’ve told before: your customers’ time is your money. As your website loads faster, less people will abandon your website, they will stay longer and ultimately your bounce rate will benefit. A good performing website even impacts SEO, making sure it’ll be easier for (potential) customers to find you. A faster website improves conversion, it increases visitor satisfaction and it reduces visitor abandonment.
